On Sunday, 2 December 2018, the 1 363 bottles, 158 magnums and 3 jeroboams featured in the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti wine collection will be offered at auction, which promises to be unique in many ways. This sale of a private collection will be exclusively dedicated to the wines of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti: a first in the history of auctions.
In June, the sale Henri Jayer, The Heritage – The ultimate sale from the private cellar of Domaine Henri Jayer, became an historical event, setting a new record in the world of fine wine auctions, selling for CHF (Swiss Franc) 34,5 million ($35 million or R505 million). Baghera wines thus strengthen their status as leading European fine wines auctioneer in 2018, and will be holding on Sunday 2 December the remarkable auction, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the secret cellar of an European collector.
“ For over 15 years now I have been visiting the world’s most exquisite cellars, discovering their hidden treasures and meeting eminent collectors who, like the monks silently accomplishing their tasks in their abbey, remain more frequently than not extremely secretive as to the object of their desire… And yet, I was completely taken by surprise on entering this unforgettable cellar, just like a secret cellar in a monastery which any aficionado would dream of having the keys to,” says Michael Ganne, Baghera/wines’ Executive Director.
Inconditional lovers of Burgundy
Behind this out-of-the-ordinary auction, first and foremost there is the story of a man and a woman, collectors at heart, unconditional lovers of the Burgundy region and – it goes without saying – enchanted by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti wines. These wines, with truly remarkable provenance and mostly offered in their original wooden cases, embody all the qualities that grands crus passionates would expect from such wines : a perfect provenance, an outstanding preservation and a wide variety of vintages (from 1934 to 2012), encompassing all of the 9 sought-after climats produced by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
The vicissitudes of life would mean that only some of these wines would be tasted and shared with the family, with friends, thus, in turn, an opportunity to access one of the world’s most magnificent private cellars of bottles from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The passion and enthusiasm with which this inspired couple composed this cellar should not end there, but should be pursued and breathe life into a renewed, respectful ardor; and, above all, with the desire to taste and share these divine beverages.
Baghera/wines is pleased to highlight these hidden treasures and to offer at auction these exceptional bottles, magnums and jeroboams. This thrilling and already historic Domaine de la Romanée-Conti wine collection will enthuse all sharp and demanding Burgundy collectors.
Weekend Wine & Music weekend
This next historical auction will be held on December the 2nd at the occasion of a must-go weekend, an event orchestrated in 3 periods. Michael Ganne, Baghera/wines’ Executive Director, has comprehensively selected 10 prestigious or uncovered Pinot Noir producing countries for this extra-ordinary wine evening on Saturday 1 December, featuring 20 Pinots Noirs cuvées of the world.
An informal wine-tasting : no pen, no tasting notes, only enjoyment and shared pleasures before the exclusive jazz concert by virtuoso pianist Shahin Novrasli. Elegantly blending his classical knowledge, Azerbaijan’s traditional folk “Mugham” and his jazz influences, Shahin has created his own unique and accomplished musical universe, within which he combines eastern and western cultures.
Baghera/wines is thrilled to invite you on 1 and 2 December in the charming venue Parc des Eaux-Vives in Geneva for a double revelation – a musical exploration and a tasting experience, where the excellency of music will inherently “connect” with the grands crus from this extraordinary collection of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti wines.
