The highly anticipated Absa Top 20 Pinotage finalists for the 2024 Pinotage competition have been announced by the Pinotage Association.
This year’s competition saw an impressive array of entries, highlighting the rich diversity and heritage of South African winemaking. With 112 entries representing 65 distinguished brand names, the competition showcased the true essence of our viticultural regions. The wines entered span 29 unique Wine of Origin areas, reflecting the variety and depth that Pinotage has to offer.
The Judging
After rigorous judging by our esteemed panel, including Samarie Smith (panel convener), Neil Ellis, Karin Visser, Dr. Erna Bonequeert, and Etienne Louw, we have reached the Top 20, all competing for the coveted place as a top ten title winner in this year’s competition.
Upcoming Awards Ceremony
The winners of the 2024 Absa Top 10 Pinotage Competition will be revealed at an exclusive awards ceremony on August 29, 2024, at the Ashanti Wine Estate, in Paarl. This event will not only celebrate the top Pinotage wines but will also serve as an opportunity for networking and life fostering relationships within the industry.
Showcasing Excellence
Throughout the year, the winning wines will be showcased at various Absa and other functions across South Africa, giving them unparalleled exposure to wine enthusiasts, industry professionals, and the broader but will public. Additionally, finalists and winners will receive significant media coverage through platforms such as Publications, Die Versnit, Instagram, and Facebook.
