The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Opportunities and Asset Management, Alderman James Vos, is encouraging women at Cape Town Tourism (CTT) member businesses to sign up for the body’s SMME Workshop this month.

The three workshop sessions will focus on current industry issues, provide practical tips on digitisation, marketing, and more.

‘As a top tourist destination, we have to always be on top of trends and what’s happening in the industry and this is why we fund Cape Town Tourism as our Official Destination Marketing Partner. The events of the past year and a half have made this an even more important goal. Helping the local tourism industry diversify while still offering world-class products and services is one of the goals in our Tourism Bounce Back Strategy,’ said Alderman Vos.

Alderman Vos said that supporting women in tourism also makes business sense and boosts the industry at large.

According to the UN World Tourism Organisation, the majority of the tourism workforce worldwide is female, with 54% of people employed in in the industry being women. “As the City and Cape Town Tourism partner, our goal is to not just help the industry get back on its feet after the lockdowns, but to help it flourish. With programmes such as the SMME Workshop for women, Cape Town Tourism is giving its members another opportunity to learn new ideas and connect with likeminded individuals,” said Alderman Vos.

“At Cape Town Tourism, our purpose is to improve the lives of Capetonians through tourism and this platform does just that. With this event, we aim to empower women in tourism to grow in their careers for the benefit of their relevant businesses but also in turn, for the benefit of our communities. We want to give them the tools and motivation that they need to grow their business during these tough times and beyond,” says Enver Duminy, CEO at Cape Town Tourism.

The workshops will take place over three dates: 4, 11 and 18 August, and will be run in partnership with Vodacom Business.

When: 4, 11 & 18 August 2021

Time: 10:00 – 12:00

CTT members who would like to take part in the workshops can register here and contact Matonie Tywakadi on with any questions.
