Franschhoek’s Chamonix Wine Estate sold to Fredensborg

Chamonix, the award-winning wine estate in Franschhoek, has been purchased by Fredensborg Property Investments SA (Pty) Ltd, a South-African subsidiary of the Norwegian real estate company Fredensborg 1994.

The sale follows three years after the passing of Chris Hellinger who acquired the property in 1991 and built it into a leading Cape wine estate, winning numerous local and international awards for its range of wines.

Stefan van Rooyen, CEO of Chamonix, says the sale follows a lengthy period of interest in the property from potential buyers locally and internationally. “The sale to Fredensborg was finalised in the past week,” says Stefan.

“Throughout the negotiating process the new owners expressed a desire to see Chamonix’s wine activities continue. We are thus heading into next year’s harvest with excitement, not only for what appears to be an excellent vintage, but with the expectation of Chamonix entering a new chapter in its illustrious history as a premier South African wine farm.”
