Imagine a balmy afternoon on the Mediterranean Sea; the water is a luminous curacao blue through your designer sunglasses. A gentle breeze tousles through your hair and glides over your sun kissed skin before you feel it nudging your yacht forward. You are drifting away into the blue, sipping on a chilled wine that engulfs your palate with revitalizing freshness. Now, your imagination runs even wilder. The salty maritime air makes way for the aromatic scent of maquis, evergreen shrubs growing in Mediterranean coastal regions, tangled with the sweet perfume of wild lavender and rosemary.

It is 16:00, and this quintessential picture, a highly improbable moment in time, is rudely disturbed by a phone call that bulldozes your daydreaming as the last gruelling hour of a nine-to-fiver slowly ticks over. But wait, that call might come bearing a gift at sea.

For most of us, the rich and famous lifestyle might only be a fleeting thought. Still, the vivacious character of the Italian grape cultivar, Vermentino, can transport you, even if only for a short while, into a world where nothing else exists but you, the wine and plenty of sunshine. After all, it is fondly referred to as the wine from the sea.

The Wallstreet Journal once dubbed Vermentino “The Yachtsman’s White” and as summer instils a renewed wanderlust, Nomoya is nicknaming theirs The Yachtsman’s Wine.

Vermentino is a remarkably versatile wine, fit for sipping on the deck of a sailboat, after a refreshing swim, or while taking in the views as the sun sets over a sliver of ocean in the distance. And for one day, we want to make this a reality for you: taking part as a passenger in a Cape Town Regatta.

Win two seats to participate as a spectator onboard one of the yachts competing in the Regatta on Sunday 9 October.

From the Mediterranean Sea to the adored seascape of South Africa. On Sunday, 9 October, Nomoya Vermentino will be starring alongside all Yachtsmen called by The Ambassador of Italy, Paolo Cuculi and the Royal Cape Yacht Club Commodore, Neil Gregory, to compete for the sought-after Italian Ambassador’s Trophy 2022.

It will be the fifth time this sailing Regatta will take place in Cape Town. Nomoya Wines is granting two vinous adventure lovers the opportunity to hop onboard one of the participating yachts as passengers and experience the true thrill of freedom!

The 2022 Regatta will highlight the oceans as a healing space with ground-breaking educational and rehabilitation projects at sea. Therefore, this year, the Yachtsmen are sailing for a cause in support of Adventure Therapy and the life-changing experience it brings to the lives of children with disabilities.

Fondazione Tender to Nave Italia, a non-profit organization founded in 2007 by the Italian Navy and Yacht Club Italiano, creates opportunities for youngsters with disabilities to partake in sailing activities on board a 70 Mt sailing brig, called ‘Nave Italia’.

In support of their commitment to improving lives, the Royal Cape Yacht Club has joined forces with them this year to raise funds and send the first ever South African crew to board Nave Italia in June 2023. All proceeds will fund five to ten deserving pupils from the RCYC Sailing Academy to participate in a week of Adventure Therapy on board Nave Italia.

Proudly the only wine sponsor for this sought-after event and supporting its cause, Nomoya also wishes to highlight the significance of Vermentino as a lesser-known wine grape varietal. Vermentino is mainly grown and made in Sardinia, Italy, but making significant inroads worldwide as a fine wine enjoyed in trending wine bars, fine dining restaurants or from the deck of your beach shack.

Thriving under the South African sun, this wine also speaks to the outdoor lifestyle of South Africans while it can transport your senses to any place you want to be. The grape’s adaptability makes it retain its natural acidity and purity of fruit. At the same time, it shines in different styles.

The Nomoya Vermentino 2022 is layered with lively aromas of apple and pear, poised on a textured mouthfeel and saline thread reminiscent of the ocean that adds length and finesse. A slight herbaceous and spicy edge adds a savoury gloss, making this a fantastic food wine throughout summer.
