In the last 10 years the word “carbon” has enjoyed preferential attention in terms of soil health among researchers and the media. However, the question is: is this just a trend, and what will be the outcome(s) of this trend?

Recompaction of the prepared soil before establishment is unavoidable due to normal soil processes, management practices and cultivation practices in the vineyard.

The cost of establishing new vineyard blocks is approximately R300 000 per hectare, and soil preparation constitutes about 10 - 15% of this expense.
