Boplaas Family Vineyards in Calitzdorp outshone many participants in a tasting of wines which have been aged for 10 years. The Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2007 was one of only 19 wines which received a rating of 90 points or more, as published on www.winemag.co.za. Of the 41 producers who entered, the Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2007 received the highest point of all the Ports entered. Bredell’s Cape Vintage Reserve 2007 also featured in the 90 or higher club, with a score of 90. See full results at http://winemag.co.za/10-year-old-wine-awards-2017-results/.
This port is the result of Boplaas’ signature blend of Portuguese varietals, Touriga Naçional, Tinta Barocca, Souzão and a splash of Touriga Francesca. A dark port with a tinge of bright purple at the rim, bullish tannins with hints of fresh plum, sweet apricots, all-spice, loads of liquorice and fynbos, which dominate the structured palate.
The Cape Vintage Reserve 2007 also celebrates Margeaux Nel’s maiden vintage as winemaker at Boplaas.
