The WineLand 30 Under 30 Community

This is a wake-up call to cynics who think they have seen it all. The young, creative and bold minds on last year’s #WineLand30Under30 honouree list are proof positive that the future will be new, exciting and profoundly different.

Despite the challenges of Covid-19, the 30 young winemakers, viticulturists, soil scientists, sommeliers, wine marketers, harvest assistants, brand ambassadors, bloggers (and everything else in between!) featured in our inaugural 2020 and 2021 WineLand 30 Under 30 community gave the wine industry reason for hope.

In 2021, WineLand Media, in collaboration with ROTOCON, honoured 30 young professionals who are making their mark in the South African wine industry in Paarl on Friday 28 May.

The 30 individuals from across the country were honoured during a special luncheon where they received certificates and a gift box, and were able to network with like-minded young professionals.

In-depth interviews were conducted with each of the chosen 30 Under 30 honourees, and featured in the June 2021 print issue of WineLand.

The June issue of WineLand magazine, with the theme 30 Under 30, is dedicated to recognising the most promising young wine ambassadors in the South African wine industry.

“Our goal is to pave the way to prosperity,” says editor of WineLand Media, Wanda Augustyn.

“To make this dream a reality, we have to identify and give recognition to the young voices in the industry who are making a difference, by shining the spotlight on them. They will become the leaders of tomorrow and we want to tell their stories, share their visions for the industry and help shape their future.”

The partnership with ROTOCON highlights commitment to youth and technology development in the industry, echoing their mantra of bringing people together.

“Despite the challenges that our country’s youth are facing, there’s immense potential that can be unlocked,” ROTOCON director and co-owner Michael Aengenvoort says.

“We are committed to the development and mentorship of the young leaders of tomorrow. We look forward to seeing how they will apply and further refine their skills in the South African wine space and hope this award will inspire them to go above and beyond their duty.”

WineLand and ROTOCON hope the 30 Under 30 initiative will inspire young people to pursue their ambitions. “We’re excited to have ROTOCON as our partner to acknowledge and honour the rising stars of our industry,” Wanda says.
