Following its announcement last week of the acquisition of Warwick Wine Estate, Eileses is pleased to confirm that Warwick Wine Estate has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Uitkyk Wine Farm from Distell.
Uitkyk, the jewel of Simonsberg, a farm of nearly 600 hectares, will increase Warwick’s footprint in the prime Simonsberg terroir to over 700 hectares. The acquisition is key to Eileses’s vision for Warwick – making it a significant provider of quality wine both domestically and globally and for South African wines to demand a much-deserved place at the world’s tables. “This investment demonstrates our ongoing confidence in South Africa and its wine industry” said Charles Marston, MD at Eileses.
Eileses will build on Warwick’s stable of Bordeaux-centric brands. Its Trilogy, Cabernet Franc, Blue Lady Cabernet, White Lady Chardonnay, and Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc will see strong growth; while Three Cape Ladies and The First Lady line will see even stronger growth.
The 2015 Warwick Trilogy becomes Cabernet Franc dominant and the 2015 Warwick Three Cape Ladies will be re-released as a Bordeaux Blend – both in October 2018.
To support this growth, Warwick will undertake a long-term winery upgrade and vineyard planting program; significantly increasing its production capacity.
The Warwick and Uitkyk management teams remain engaged and focused to deliver these strategic objectives. When the purchase closes, the Uitkyk team will join the existing Warwick team.
